Catelyn Tully & Eddard Stark

Catelyn ran. She ran down steps and corridors and finally across Riverrun’s vast main courtyard. When Eddard saw her come, he dismounted. She flung her arms around his neck and buried her face in the crook of his neck. His strong arms wrapped around her waist and held her to him, and she felt his breath warm against her skin.

Catelyn did not love Eddard Stark. Not yet. But as she stood there, held close to him, she felt something stir in her heart. It was affection, she realised. Absence had indeed made her heart grow fonder, well helped by the baby boy who still slept somewhere in the castle. Still, fondness was not love. In time, she thought to herself, placing a light kiss on his bearded cheek as they broke apart. In time.
