Frøya is the goddess of love, fertility, pregnancy, and, paradoxically, war and death. She is considered one of the three most beautiful women in Åsgård along with Frigg and Siv. Frøya is married to Od, a minor god with no known attributes, by whom she has two daughters, Noss and Gersemi. Od left Frøya to go on a journey, and when he did not return , she cried tears of red gold. For this reason “tears of Frøya” was a common literary term for gold in the viking age.
